 Not the most sturdy dress formJan 20, 2010

Initially I thought the base of the stand was constructed oddly, but it's surprisingly secure. I don't have many worries about the form tipping, which is the main concern I've sent mentioned with other dress forms. Another good point is that unlike most dress forms which have one adjustment knob for each measurement (hips, waist, bust)there are four ajustments points for each: front, each side and back. This would allow truer measurement - if you are more full in the rear for instance.
Unforunately, I was dissapointed with the overall construction of this dress form:
- The molded plastic form itself had a slightly mishapen shoulder, only one side. It's minor, and shouldn't affect fitting (I hope).
- Unfortunately, the mechanisms used to adjust the form are ALL plastic, from the adjusting wheel to the bolts. They're kind of a cheap plastic. I don't expect that I will be making many adjustments, after I adjust the form to my size, but I don't expect they will hold up long to repetitive use. If you construct garments for other people, and need to adjust the form frequently to accomodate different sizes, you'll be very disapointed. Even for me, I don't expect them to last long, and I already have plans to 'modify' by replacing these parts with something more durable.
- The adujusting knob at the top, meant to adjust the neck is very clunky, and like the other adjustment parts, is entirely of cheap plastic.
Overall, I needed a dress form, and now I have one. It's overall better than some of the newer models in this price range, but like the others, the form is constructed rather cheaply. This won't stand up to regular use as made. I'd have given the dress form glowing reviews had the manufacturer spent an extra dollar or two and used aluminum parts instead of plastic.

I was so excited when my dress form finally arrived!! I opened the box, and put it together, minus the instructions, because there wasn't any except for how to use the dress form. After I got it together I went to adjust it, and found there was no adjustment key???? I went through all the packaging again, looked all inside the dress form to see if it was taped up inside somewhere, NOTHING! So after having my dress form for literally 10 minutes, I am on the phone with Amazon. I do have to say they were really nice, and did contact the manufacturer who sent me the adjustment tool. But After 2 weeks I finally received it. Well got my hopes up again about finally being able to use it. BOY....WHAT A LET DOWN!!! It was very difficult to adjust. It didnt want to move a centimeter anywhere but the at the waist. you have to slowly go around and adjust it in small increments anyway, thats to be expected, but its hard to do if it doesnt wanna move anywhere. It took about 30 minutes to get it just right, if not longer. Then all of a sudden one of the gears just popped off, and broke. I read the instructions about adjusting it very carefully. you can tell the form is fragile the second you take it out of the box. So I Used great care while adjusting it. Plus I wasn't even adjusting it when it broke. I also only had it set just 1 1/2 inches bigger than it came, so it wasnt under a lot of stress. It was just very cheap, poor quality merchandise. For the money I am livid. It is thank goodness adjusted to my specific size, and it will forever stay that way......lets just hope that I stay that size for a while to make it worth the money. Next time I will make sure the form I buy doesn't have all plastic parts.

The only issues I have are 1) At times the pins end up having the sticking material from inside the mannequin and therefore cant be used again (unless you can scrub off the glue). 2) height is too short, the mannequin can only be adjusted to a shorter size from about 5'4" (so you can't really use the hem attachment feature unless you are making a short dress!) 3) Not sure if its because the stand is not holding the mannequin from center but because of the offset position the mannequin ends up being lopsided and adversely impacts your sewing and jewelry proportions. Otherwise, it helpful to have especially compared to other adjustable dressforms out there

I bought this item for my seamstress child who is studying fine art at college. I thought it looked very nice; but she was thrilled when she got it Christmas morning she even told me it is better quality than the product they sell at a local store. Thank you.

the Dritz dressform arrived quickly and was easy to size for my measurements. It has made for an easier time adjusting patterns to fit; and for checking out the fit and lay of the fabric as I go.
It was well worth the cost for the help it brings to sewing projects for a new sewer like me.
